Swearing in Songs: the Last F***ing Word

I'm listening to some new recordings from a band called The Bovine Wives.

It's Matt's new band who used to be in Wendykurk and Dethkit [and, I assume, Dethkats before that].

They're great, a bit Faith No More, a bit funky Happy Mondays, a lot themselves. But the track I want to play has a "fuck" in it.

Now, the show's producers had a meeting with our editor on Friday and the dictate from on high is that, without exception, no 'f-words' are to be broadcast on my show, from now on.

I wish I could say that that the persuasive and eloquent arguments you had put forward in a previous note had helped engineer an amnesty on swearing for the show, but they didn't. I do know -- for sure -- that the BBC is under considerable pressure at the moment, and that measures like this shouldn't be seen as heavy-handed attempts to curb your creative freedom but rather a way to protect the very fabric and future of the BBC.

So, I would ask you, please, to point out when your songs have *any* swearing in them. If you could provide us with radio edits, that would be appreciated. If you can't, we can cut / remove swearing out of tracks [up to a point] with your permission.

I think that this just synchronises our policy with the rest of BBC Introducing...

But it is a frustration, I'll admit that.

Thank you for your efforts with regard to this.
