Evil Knievel Raves On!

Hey mate!

[ me, studiously ignoring someone bawling at me across the DJ booth while I mix the next song in ]

HEY MATE!

( ShitÖ in the interests of not making this blog as boring and repetitive as a Stereophonics album, and because even I feel guilty on occasions, I had promised to be much nicer to people when I am DJ'ing in Telfords. But this guyÖ bawling at meÖ he can see I'm busyÖ he can see I have headphones onÖ what is wrong with [some] people? )

What can I do for you?

Evil Knievil is dead.

Eh?

Evil Knievil. He was a stuntman. He died today.

I'm DJ'ing. What do you want me to do about it? Resurrect him with the righteous power of the Carpenters?

Don't be sarky. Play something in tribute to him. Play some Happy Mondays.

???????????????????????????????????

Can anyone tell me what the link between Happy Mondays and Evil Knievil is? Anyone? Because that is the strangest thing that anyone has said to me all year.

That was Friday night. Which was so quiet I turned myself down. That has never, ever happened before. I can attribute the quiet weeks to one -- or a combination -- of these factors:

i) People hate the music I play.
ii) The credit crunch. Telfords isn't the cheapest [but it is, by far, the nicest pub / music venue / restaurant in the area.
iii) The final of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. Please do not let that one be the cause. Otherwise I will lose what few, ragged remnants of faith I have in humanity.
iv) The fact that it has been cold & it has been raining & all the smokers have to shelter under at Telfords is a few parasols.
v) The imminence of that money-sucking religious shamfest, Christmas.
vi) My refusal to play past-it 'baggy' records in honour of snuffed-it daredevils.

Fortunately the Christmas party season will arrive this Friday night like a pissed up hen party in search of an injured Chippendale.

I will have to play records that people like and records that people can [ironically] dance to.

This I will be happy to do because there are plenty of great pop records that everyone likes that are not shite. Unfortunately, there are also records by the Scissor Sisters.
